November 2000 Goat Notes

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Second Annual THANKSGATHERING last weekend. Outstanding music and the kind NC folk is always a recipe for a tremendous time and this one was special. The THANKSGATHERING has become the perfect just-before-mid-Smilefest-year boost and it was great to see everyone again. A huge amount of gratitude goes out to Ziggy's, Mister Charlie's(aka Mark & Celeste), K.G.Casper Rocks, and smilin' Bob Roberston for making it all happen.

Lonely Goat presents The Larry Keel Experience this Friday, December 1 at The Click in Greensboro. Look for the add at this link http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/index.htm.

Two items of interest that I ran into this weekend:

Ancient Harmony has announced their Millennium Weekend complete with three levels of travel packages. Check out http://www.ancientharmony.com for all of the details.

I also heard about the 2nd Annual Southeastern Microbrewers Holiday Beer & Bluegrass Festival. It's Saturday December 16 in Chapel Hill and features music with David Via & Corn Tornado and Steep Canyon Rangers. Check out the website at http://www.brewgrassfestival2000.com or call the hotline at 919-969-8789.

I'd also like to say thanks to Dennis Humphries again for his regular contributions to http://www.jambase.com. Each week he provides a great rundown of kind events in NC. He took the Holiday off, but I'm glad to see he's back this week. Thanks again Dennis.

This Thanksgiving weekend has a lot to offer in the way of kind music. Wednesday night Widespread Panic will be hosting their traditional Thanksgiving show in North Carolina. Catch them at the Asheville Civic Center and don't forget about the after show at Black Mountain Music Hall with up and coming local favorites The Southern Lights.

Also this weekend, Ziggy's is hosting the Second Annual THANKSGATHERING brought to you by Ziggy's, Lonely Goat, Mister Charlie's, and NFA Entertainment. We have two nights of music this year to fill the long weekend as well as the now traditional Sunday nite potluck. Check out the web page for all of the bands on the bill and come on out for some great music and kind fellowship.

Keep an eye on http://www.jamlive.org (formerly known as WQFSJam). This weekly radio show started as a once a week broadcast on the Guilford College radio station in Greensboro. They recently lost their on-air spot and began broadcasting exclusively over the internet. Although they are no longer on the WQFS airwaves, there is talk of bringing them back for those of us in range of the WQFS signal. Even better, however, JamLive is now simulcasting two more WQFS shows each week. You can catch the Mac'n Cheese show on Fridays from 12-2PM EST and the Stoner Serenade on Sundays from 12-2PM EST. Both shows air live on the radio too and are good bets for some kind music. JamLive will also be airing an interview with Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers Band and Frogwings) on Wednesday the 29th. This interview will also rebroadcast on the Mac'n Cheese show Friday, December 1 and the Stoner Serenade Sunday, December 3.

Tours are slowing down a bit as the holidays creep up on us. Now is a good time to catch some of the local talent in NC that you may have bypassed for a bigger name in the past. Happy jammin'.

Greensboro's Folkswaggin' has confirmed that their Annual New Year's Bash at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro is on the schedule. These guys never fail to suprise and delight when they throw a party. Watch for more details as they are released.<http://www.folkswaggin.com>

I just heard about a Blugrass & Acoustic music email newsletter about events in Atlanta. Check out Atlanta Bluegrass & Acoustic Music and sign up for the weekly email. <http://members.aol.com/pickinhour/index.html>

Ohio's ekoostik hookah was featured in a recent edition of Pollstar magazine, one of the premier publications for the music concert industry. Check out the article at http://www.pollstar.com/news/viewhotstar.pl?Artist=EKOHOO

I'm excited to announce a new addition to the Lonely Goat web. David Via & Corn Tornado have taken up residence with us so swing by to check out what the bluegrass buddies have been up to. <http://www.davidvia.com or http://www.corntornado.com>

The String Cheese Incident has two shows in NC this week. If you haven't caught them yet, make every effort to attend one of these shows. An SCI show is truly an event you do not want to miss.

Finally, I'm not sure if I've mentioned it officially, but the THANKSGATHERING page is up. Check out http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/thanksgathering.htm for our second annual Thanksgiving event.
