AT THE NC SHINDIG
I had the pleasure of having them play a few weeks back at a festival my husband and I put on every year. The first thing I noticed was the sound of the powerful, sexy and soulful melodies coming from singer, Angie White. Angie, a true blues singer, used to be part of SIMPLE TRUTH and CHICKEN FAT. Then I caught the balance around her. Bassist Jason Pentecost, formerly of THE SELF RISING BISCUIT BROTHERS, backs Angie up with a dynamic dual of vocals and bass rifts. Both Jon Hatch and Bo Walker play energetic guitars that seem to sound like soul mates. Jon and Bo are from the Florida area and played with THE BROKE BLUES BAND. To top it all off there is the vigorous sound of Matt Toth's drums. HOME REMEDY is definitely a band that you can not keep still while listening to. They also take their music out on some toe stomping jams. I felt the blues, the psychedelic rock, the funk, and an all-around gratifying sound coming from the stage. They played songs like THE ALLMAN BROTHER'S Southbound, THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT'S Best Feeling, and even MOE.'S Moth. As well as originals like The California Song, Ugly Side, and Turner Salad. A treat for me was when Shawn Mogley got up on stage with them and played harmonica during Crossroads and then Tom Shaw added a robust guitar sound during Sugar Magnolia. At times they will play for close to an hour without stopping. These guys are extremely talented and so down to earth, they make you feel like one of the family. They all seem comfortable and natural on stage as well as creating this bubble around you and them. I heard the term "organic" used to describe them and I agree. All in all HOME REMEDY is ear candy and I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys having fun, being swept away, and dancing to groovy live music. We will definately have them back to play all of our future festivals. I encourage you to check them out and catch yourself some HOME REMEDY! |
