Well, this is my first try at doing
a photo essay myself and I think it turned out okay. I don't think I took enough candid
shots of the event itself and I'm very disappointed in my night shots, but for a guy with
a new digital camera who hasn't picked up an SLR for ten years it's not half bad. Enjoy

Railroad Earth - Friday

The set was rained out about halfway through...
Bela Fleck & The
Flecktones - Friday Afternoon
ekoostik hookah - Friday Night
It was still pretty muddy from the rain that came during the Railroad
Earth set and damp in general so I put up my camera at set break thinking I'd get some
great stuff Saturday and that I would get my groove accounted for during Friday's second
set. Boy was I kicking myself when Bela Fleck & Jeff Coffin and three folks from
Railroad Earth joined ekoostik hookah for 'Little Maggie' and 'Highway 61 Revisited'!

ekoostik hookah - Saturday
Night
Despite my desire to cut loose, I intended to keep my camera with me for
the entire show Saturday. I was still kicking myself for missing shots of the guest jam
Friday and I wanted some good encore shots. The rain storm towards the end of the second
set, however, persuaded me to stow the camera away somewhere dry and I did not risk taking
it out when the music started again. Further night shots would have apparently been a
waste of time anyway judging from the quality of what I did shoot early in the second set
so I'm glad I chose to groove. However, I hate not being able to share shots of the encore
including Billy Joel's 'Big Shot', Blood, Sweat & Tears' 'Spinning Wheel' with the
'Tower of Shower' Hookahville horn section, AC/DC's 'TNT' complete with props and an
amazing fireworks display, followed by Sly & The Family Stone's 'I Want To Take You
Higher' with the 'Tower of Shower' again, and finally a climactic jam of Santana's 'Soul
Sacrifice.'
I hesitate to share these night photos because I did not
do a very good job. I'm just learning this new camera's features and my photography
technique is a little rusty, not to mention it can get pretty hectic up front so get what
you can from them.
