March 1999 Goat Notes

Welcome back to Lonely Goat land! This issue is unfortunately way behind schedule, but it should be out at the stores by the first Wednesday in March. I now have a definitive schedule for production dates for the rest of the year. I plan to find a way to have each issue out by the last Friday of the month. Let's see if I can do it.

Humble Pie Time. Many apologies to The Disco Biscuits for the omission of the "the" from the name of the band. Despite my insistence that the "the" screws up all my band databases, they stood firmly on the side of creative expression and that the "the" was key. Right they are. I'm sure all of the "the" bands thank you too (you'll notice I've tried to fix everyone else this applies to as well).

Have you checked out lonelygoat.com yet? Recently, we added photos to Mad Dog Quartet's site from the Ominous Seapods show at Cue-N-Sprits last month. Look in the next week for the launching of the smilefest.com site with a very cool photo album from past events and recent Chinese New Year photos.

I am listing two dates this month for Jive Turkee, a new band coming out of Winston Salem. I spoke with Chris Smith, who says their influences are Phish and Medeski, Martin & Wood. I like those names. Check them out Fri. 3/5 at Somewhere Else Tavern or Sat. 3/6 at Zoo Bar and let Lonely Goat know what you think.

You will notice a lot more advertising in this issue. Thanks to these kind folks. I used this revenue to bring you more content and to print more issues for distribution. Patronizing these stores directly contributes to keeping Lonely Goat alive. Thanks.

Bob Robertson of NFA Entertainment sure could use some help distributing flyers for his outstanding line up of shows at Cue-N-Spirits. He is particularly in need of someone on campus who can hit bulletin boards inside buildings. He'll probably let you in free too, but I did not say that. Give him a call at 644-0721 if you got the time and a stapler.

A call from Sherri Capps of Snapdragon Productions in Greensboro, has resulted in a listing for Nandina's CD Release party Sat. 3/4 at Zoo Bar. Their press release says: "Nandina is an all original, all female trio...Their sets include various styles and rhythms of music: acoustic rock, bohemian beats, celtic based sounds and occasional spasm of guttural vocals." Pieces include 12 string guitar, percussion and bass. Let Lonely Goat know what you think.

be seeing you...
