![]() Return to Goat Notes Archives First published in Lonely Goat Print Magazine Volume II - #8 September 1999 Goat Notes After a brief disappearing act in August, Lonely Goat is back with all the kind information you can handle. August was a tough month here at LG HQ as we were, once again, moving. I have also taken the month hiatus to do even more restructuring of the Lonely Goat product. The first year of the magazine has used up all of my reserve assets. As a result, I'm now only offering the subscription product. I've put The Goatee free product to bed for a while to concentrate on producing the magazine more regularly and growing its content. I know that I owe all of the subscribers a huge apology for the month I skipped. I appreciate your understanding and patience during all of the changes of the past year. Please be assured that your subscriptions will be extended for the missing month. Thanks for putting up with the hick-ups. I'm pleased to announce that the search for a Fine Arts Editor has ended. Amanda Hamilton has assumed responsibilities for coordinating the illustration and creative writings submissions. She has already done more in one month than I did all of last year. Look for more content in these areas in the coming months. Thanks, Amanda, for your enthusiastic support. By the way, I'm still maintaining www.lonelygoat.com. I'll be posting each forthcoming week's dates on Sundays. Subscribers to the magazine will be the only people getting the full month's schedule at one time. The website will also contain a gallery of photos from shows since I can not print photos in the black & white magazine. Currently, I'm featuring images from Hookahville XI last Spring. Check them out sometime. Also new to the website is the recently completed site for Dye Nation or Greensboro. They offer a full line of tie-dyed clothing and accessories at very reasonable prices. Browse through their site and buy yourself something nice for the Fall Festival season. Speaking of Fall, you'll find lots of shows and festivals coming up in the next few month's. I've printed everything I know about which includes quite a bit in October and a few hot dates in November like the return Dark Star Orchestra. Don't forget to peruse the Halloween and New Year special sections. A lot of these events require early tickets so pay attention to the dates so you do not get left out. In the festivals, you will have to make some hard choices. The South Mountain events mark the resurgence of this venue after a few shows in the Spring. They are working hard to create a great facility for outdoor shows in North Carolina. I hope to get there this month for the first time and check out what I've been hearing about so much. NFA Entertainment has also been busy during the past month. Bob has scheduled a couple of shows at Blind Tiger including Sound Tribe Sector Nine, The Recipe, and Acoustic Syndicate. Our support of these shows will determine the success of kind music in Greensboro. Let's show the venue owners how much they want to keep booking kind acts at their establishments by coming out in force for these shows. Thanks to Bob for continuing to work so diligently at making live kind music a reality in Greensboro. Departures to note: Drummer Chris Carson of Grasshopper Highway split for NYC in August. I've gotten no word from GH about a replacement, but they say there will be some fall dates soon. Autoharp dynamo Gavan Daly has flown The Low Country Boil Bluegrass Band coup to join the Airforce. Really. LCB has added a new member on Banjo and will be around here some in early September. Ziggy's by the Sea, which opened last Spring at Atlantic Beach, will be closing for the season in early September. We'll keep an eye out for their return in the Spring. Folkswaggin' is back. You'll see a few dates for them in the next couple of months. Singer Jason Blalock has returned for some shows of late including a Ziggy's spot a few weeks ago where the band debuted a screamin' version of Whipping Post. Mucho props to David McCraken on the Hammond and Jason for just plain singing his heart out. The scoop on the Jason situation is that he will play as many shows as he can, mainly the local gigs. When Jason can not be at a show, Folkswaggin' will perform as a four piece with Shane Lee as the sole front man. Folkswaggin' will be performing at the Tate Street Festival September 18 and by all reports, Jason will be there. I do not know what time, but go early and check out the scene. This hip little strip by UNCG has made quite a turn around since school started up in August. I hope the positive trend continues. be seeing you... |
