June 2000 Goat Notes

6.28.00
Get on the bus! I have some exciting news to share. Lonely Goat is pleased to announce that we have arranged for a chartered bus trip from North Carolina to Hookahville Fall 2000<http://www.hookahville.com>. Dam Good Tours <http://rkemble1.bizland.com/index1.chtml> based in New Jersey and St. Louis will be making the arrangements. Hookahville Fall 2000 is scheduled for September 1-3 at Buckeye Lake Music Center in Ohio. The lineup includes ekoostik hookah both nights, Jorma Kaukonen Band, Alvin Youngblood Hart Band, CPR featuring David Crosby, Toni Brown Band, and more. The tentative price for the trip is $140 which includes your ticket to the festival, but this may increase slightly. A deposit of $70 is due by the end of July. We only have fifty seats available so I recommend acting quickly. Watch the Lonely Goat website for more details and please feel free to contact me for more information.

I've added more information to the dates this week. Since the email does not seem to get out until Wednesday, I'm now listing dates through next Thursday.

BANDS
The Southern Lights <http://www.southernlights.cjb.net/> in Boone will be playing a side stage at the Jethro Tull concert on July 2 at Blockbuster Pavillion in Charlotte. Be sure to catch them if you can. These guys are making a good name for themselves.

I was contacted this week by 'The McKees' in Chapel Hill. Check them out at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/117/the_mckees.html.

I'm going to take some space this week to highlight a couple of festivals:

The Jameokee Jamboree is scheduled for August 4-6 right here in NC! The folks at Ziggy's in Winston Salem, NC are throwing the event which includes Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, Donna the Buffalo, and The Original 'P'. I know I mentioned this last week, but the weblink was wrong. Try http://www.ziggyrock.com. Sorry for the error. I have more news too. The Boone, NC publication 'THE PAPER' has a new website and you can register to win a pair of tickets to the Jameokee Jamboree when you visit http://www.thepaperrocks.com.

A lot has been happening in West Virginia this Spring and lots more is on the way for the summer. A new venue, Sunshine Daydream Music Festival
Campground <http://www.sunshinedaydreams.com>, has been hosting some great events almost two or three weekends a month it seems. Some of the events are put on by Sunshine Daydreams and some are presented by Productions Plus <http://baysoft.net/prod+/>, a WV/ VA promoter. The most recent addition to the schedule is of particular interest to the Smilefest folks. The Mountaintop Newgrass & Bluegrass Festival is scheduled for June 30 - July 1 at Sunshine Daydreams. Presented by Sunshine Daydream, bands include The Larry Keel Experience & Curtis Burch, Davisson Brothers, Snake Oil Medicine Show, and seven more TBA. I've heard some good reports about the campground and the dedicated effort everyone involved with these past few events has put forth. If you don't make this festival, there are more on the way so check out their websites.

Those who saw Max Creek at Smilefest earlier this month might be interested in the Wormtown Music Festival August 25-26 at Stepping Stone Ranch in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. The lineup includes Max Creek, Slipknot, Foxtrot Zulu, Jiggle the Handle, The Dude of Life, Another Planet, Moon Boot Lover, The Toni Brown Band, Michigan Black Snake, Loose Change, The Bruce Mandaro Band and recently added...Ancient Harmony from our neck of the woods. The folks at wormtown are offering a special discount on tickets for us southerners who got turned on to Max Creek at Smilefest and want to make the trip up north. Send me a note if you are interested.

Finally, a quick note to the bands out there: Our friend David Regan, who manages The Low Country Boil Bluegrass Band and now Perpetual Groove also, is now Music Director for College of Charleston radio in Charleston, SC. He is looking for bluegrass/jam/improv material to feature on-air. Send him an email at dalyplnet@aol.com.
