Check them out at IUMA <http://theleelafiasco.iuma.com>. I received a heads up from two new bands this week. Check out Afterbucket from Chapel Hill <http://www.afterbucket.com> and Flow Max from Winston Salem <http://www.flowmax.net>. Both bands have been added to the band links page on the website. 10.17.00 Stop by and check out a new website for MD3 (the band formerly known as Mad Dog Quartet - sort of). <http://www.lonelygoat.com/md3/index.htm>. Morning Glory Visuals have added a random photo feature on the main page which is kind of like the high of gambling without the cost - click to your heart's content and every result is a winner! <http://www.lonelygoat.com/mgv/index.htm>. Dye Nation has added some new items to their online product catalog. Stop by and see if they've added that garment you've been waiting for <http://www.dyenation.com/dyenation/index.htm>. The Second Annual THANKSGATHERING is in the works. Last year's inagural event featured Ancient Harmony on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. This year's event will span two nights on Saturday November 25 & Sunday November 26 and will again be held at Ziggy's in Winston Salem. Bands scheduled so far include The Ladies Auxilary with Nurse, Fat Apple, and singer songwriter Jamie Thomas on Saturday. Sunday will feature Ancient Harmony, The Recipe, Man Alive, and T.h.h.e. Mood Cultivation Project. We are once again planning a potluck dinner for Sunday night. Ticket prices are $8/ nite in advance and $10/ nite DOS. There are a limited number of discounted two day tickets also. Tickets can be purchased through any of the bands on the bill. I'll be adding a web page with all the details this week. Last year's event was a truly kind time and I want to thank Mark & Celeste Bloomfiled and Ziggy's for keeping this idea alive this year. It's the perfect way to work off that Thanksgiving dinner and fill up your holiday weekend with some kind tunes. Raleigh's Drifting Through has been gaining fans by the bushel these days. They've even come up with a good way to say thanks for all of the support. Drifting Through now has a 'Frequent Fan Card.' Fans can get their card stamped at DT shows. After five stamps, your next show is free. After ten stamps, you get free merchandise signed by the band. What a great idea! 10.10.00 I have a correction from last week. The http://JamLive.org radio webcast is on Wednesdays from 6-8PM not 6-10PM as I reported. Sorry for the confusion. Speaking of internet radio shows, be sure to check out the offerings at the Home Grown Music Network site. Their roots lie in radio and they have a serious commitment to the medium. http://www.homegrownmusic.net/radio.html. Virginia promoter Productions Plus is turning in the keys. Pro+ threw a number of great festivals last summer at Sunshine Daydream in West Virginia and will be missed. The good news is that Ed Glazier's Save the World Entertainment will be picking up where Pro+ leaves off. Ed is also the Venue Manager for Sunshine Daydream. The Save the World Entertainment website is in the works, but you will eventually find it at http://www.savetheworld.ws. Jiggle the Handle is now just Jiggle. They will launch a new website at the end of the year. I received their newsletter this week and it says Jiggle will be at UNC Asheville Thursday at 4PM at an outdoor event. Check them out if you can. Finally, in case you are unaware, this Friday is the THIRTEENTH of October. It's a great reason to get out and catch some live music. There are a bunch of shows from local acts as well as some regional & national names so you won't have a difficult time finding some kind folk and kind music. The Donna the Buffalo show with Acoustic Syndicate will be outstanding. The Brewery in Raleigh will host Ohio's own EKOOSTIK HOOKAH. Hookaheads will note that the last time eh was in state was two years ago at the very same venue. I have a tremendous appreciation for ekoostik hookah's music. If you are having a hard time making a choice this Friday, do yourself a favor and go absorb some of the hookah sound. 10.3.00 Highlights from the weekend include my first exposure to Glue (featuring former members of Quiver) whose sound I really enjoyed. Be sure to check them out at http://www.gluefunk.com. Folkswaggin' also brought forth a jammin performance at Hookland. The waggin' is definitely back folks! You can catch them this Saturday at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro. If the recent removal of the WQFSJam from the airwaves has left you scrounging for some good college radio, I've got good news Flash! ALL SHADES OF GRASS is a new radio program on the UNCG station 103.1 in Greensboro. Mike will be playing a variety of live bluegrass recordings ranging from The Stanley Brothers to Acoustic Syndicate to Leftover Salmon. You can catch the show on Thursdays from 11 PM to 1 AM. Many thanks to Mike for keeping it kind on the airwaves. Speaking of WQFSJam. I know I mentioned previously that they were changing their name to JamLive.org and would be broadcasting over the internet. Well they are up and running. The web broadcast is Wednesdays from 6-10PM EST. You can find it at http://www.jamlive.org. Kind bud CraysE of Wavy Train fame sent me a note about the band CYC. CYC, from south Georgia, is playing in Charlotte at Mojo's on Wednesday and CraysE says you don't want to miss it. This weekend is the WNCW Mountain Oasis Festival at Deerfields Retreat in Mills River, NC. The bands who are playing are listed in the dates below and it's some good stuff. I would be doing a great disservice if I did not also mention The 3rd Annual Harvest Festival in Atlanta this weekend. Check out T-Dawg's webpage at http://www.harvestfest2000.com for the scoop. |
