If you have not heard by now, North Carolina is a prominent stop on the upcoming spring Phil & Friends 'Here Comes Sunshine' tour. This is the first real southern run for the band and it all starts April 13 in Florida. NC will host Phil April 19 in Asheville at the Asheville Civic Center and April 20 at Independence Arena in Charlotte. Mail order started Monday and goes until February 16. Call 415-457-6388 for mail order information or check out the GDTSTOO website: http://www.gdtstoo.com. Bob Weir's Ratdog will also be comming around with a NC date April 6 at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville. Mail order started February 7 and the same website and phone number apply. I'd like to welcome Larry James to the Lonely Goat staff. Larry is taking on the duties of South Carolina Representative. He is going to help us create a Kind Bands page and a Venues page for SC and he is doing some writing too. This week I posted his review of Emma Gibbs Band at the Music Farm in Charleston. It's on the Lonely Goat main page: http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/index.htm. Many thanks to Larry for his efforts already. Good news for the radio listeners in Greensboro. JamLive is now broadcasting again via WQFS 90.9 on Wednesday's from 6-8PM. JamLive started as a radio show on WQFS and was then called The WQFSJam. Last fall, the show was not scheduled on WQFS so our persistent host Joel started a website called JamLive.org and started broadcasting over the internet. Now you can still listen over the internet and JamLive is back on the radio too! Many thanks to Joel for keeping it rolling. Check out the website: http://www.jamlive.org. Atlanta's Blueground Undergrass will be coming around again this spring and they will have a new bassist named Patrick Moore. He plays electric standup bass, fretless and fretted basses. I look forward to hearing how this enhances the already popular band that features 'rev' Jeff Mosier on banjo, formerly of Aquarium Rescue Unit. <http://www.bluegroundundergrass.com> Speaking of those folks in Atlanta, Tdawg has announced the dates for the 4th Annual HarvestFest. Mark your calendars for September 28-30, which is a little earlier than the festival has traditionally been held. <http://www.harvestfest200.com> I've been making quite a few updates to the Kind Bands in NC page at Lonely Goat. New additions include: Alibi in Greensboro, Barefoot Manner in Raleigh, Bessie Mae's Dream in Charlotte, Don de Leaumont in Concord, Mars Bound Mind in Winston Salem, The Patrick Rock Band in Greensboro, Sons of Ralph in Asheville, and Sri Bidi in New Bern. I've also added web links to Greensboro's Nandina, Charlotte's Wavy Train, and Winston Salem's Jive Turkee. Stop by the updated page and browse a bit: http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/bands.htm. Jive Turkee's new lineup hits the road this week as the band boasts their biggest tour to date. I recommend checking out what is happening with this band on the move. Greensboro's Zippo Marx has disbanded after three years of canvasing the Triad area. Best of luck to the band in their new endeavors. |
