June 2001 Goat Notes

The big news for me this week is the Lucidity Fest at Artistika Cafe in Greensboro this Saturday. Lucidity Fest features six Triad area bands from 4PM to closing time including (and in this order I think) None the Wiser, FatJoy, Life Trip, Analogorithm, Megelen, and MD3. In between bands, there will be other performances like poetry readings, acoustic solo performances, and Hare Krishna chanting from what I hear. Spend ten bucks and support local music in Greensboro!<http://www.artistikacafeconcert.itgo.com>

The Eno River Fest is also this weekend. This is a city festival held in Durham's City Park and is now in it's 22nd year! They have some great musicians and it's a charity event to preserve the Eno River.<http://www.enoriver.org>

If you are headed towards Myrtle Beach for the Fourth of July, be sure to check out what's going on at The Pad in North Myrtle Beach. July 4th they have indoor and outdoor shows with Ancient Harmony, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, T.h.h.e. Mood Cultivation Project, and Sons of Steel. The venue number is 843-663-0194.<http://www.ancientharmony.com>

Two of the big Fall festivals have released lineups and information. T. Dawg's 4th Annual Harvestfest is scheduled for September 28-30 at Atlanta's Back Porch in Fairburn, GA.<http://www.tdawgsproductions.com>. Magnolia Music & Events' MagnoliaFest is scheduled for October19-21 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL.<http://www.magmusic.com>. Both of these festivals are featuring performers from our neck of the woods which is as good an excuse as any for a little Fall vacation to support the home folks don't you think?

I've added two new bands to the Lonely Goat Bands Page:
Chasing Edison - Raleigh - Jam Rock - http://www.chasingedison.com/
Matt McGuire & Unselfish Pride - Raleigh - Roots Rock - http://www.unselfishpride.com/

There is a lot of quality music on the schedule this week including visits to NC from Strangefolk & The Radiators.

Nasheville's The Guy Smiley Blues Exchange have two NC dates on the way. This Friday, June 22, they are at the Pour House in Raleigh and Friday, July 6 they are at Fat City Deli in Charlotte for the Gallery Crawl.<http://gsbe.com>

There are some pretty good events on the way this summer, so I'm presenting a little planning information this week:

Well, I missed last week's email and I'm just barely getting one in this week. Many apologies to everyone for the gap in productivity. It's been a little hectic finishing up Smilefest projects.

Speaking of Smilefest, what a time! Congratulations to NFA Entertainment/ Smilefest Productions on a tremendous effort. The festival tripled in size this year, yet none of the good vibes were sacrificed wtih the growth. I think everyone who attended agrees that this is how a festival should be presented and we'll all be back in August for the Brushy Mountain Jamboree.

Two weeks ago I mentioned a FREE festival that Ancient Harmony was publicizing and I'm sad to report that the Mountain Jam scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled. Apparently, there was some conflict between the event promoter and the land owner. Ancient Harmony will, however, be at Camp Buzz on Sunday in Oxford, Ohio. I know it's late notice, but I thought I would pass it along anyway.<http://www.campbuzz.com>

That's about all I'm going to get into this week since I'm fighting the five o'clock deadline to get this email out.
