October 2001 Goat Notes

10.24.01
It's Halloween weekend and there's some great music happening.

The Ninth Annual Acoustic Syndicate Halloween Masquerade Ball will take place at the blessed Van Hoy Farms in Union Grove. This is the last event at VHF this year so camp now or hold your peace until spring. <http://www.acousticsyndicate.com>

I can't recal if I've mentioned the joint venture from Ancient Harmony and T.H.H.E. Mood Cultivation Project. They call it ANCIENT CULTIVATION and the idea is for MCP to start the evening and slowly turn it over to AH without a break in the music. Somewhere in there there are going to be some massive jams! Check out the Ancient Cultivation scene on Wendesday at Ziggy's or Friday at Artistika.<http://www.ancientharmony.com>

Alo this weekend in Greensboro, In the Spotlight and Sandbox Productions present COMMUNITY HARVEST: A RED CROSS BENEFIT. It all takes place October 27, 2001 at the Carolina Theater in Greensboro, NC and will feature some familiar names like The Allison King Band, Mad Dog Trio, and Ancient Harmony. Check out the ad on Lonely Goat Central at http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/ads/its_ch.htm.

Both T.h.h.e. Mood Cultivation Project & Wavy Train have Halloween events this weekend and some others are happening Wednesday with Deep Banana Blackout in Asheville, The Southern Lights in Banner Elk, Steep Canyon Rangers in Boone, Southern Groove Society in Chapel Hill, and Barefoot Manner in Raleigh. Check the listings below for the full scoop.

Our friends at Smilefest Productions have not had a lot of time to relax since the well-received SMILEFEST 2001 event at Van Hoy Farms in Union Grove. Since June, the SmileFolks have hosted the BRUSHY MOUNTAIN JAMBOREE in August, they have assisted with the VAN HOY FESTIVAL on Labor Day and the MOUNTAIN OASIS FESTIVAL in September as well as T DAWG'S HARVEST FESTIVAL in Atlanta. We all know they have plans to take it up another level in 2001 (I'll remind everyone that there is a message board at the Smilefest Productions website where you can cast your votes for future artists). Now they also have some big shows planned for the Fall and Winter months. A new relationship with Blue Dolphin Music (Larry Keel Experience, MoDeReKo) has everyone excited about the possibilities. Check out both of their websites for more details, but I think some great things are about to happen <http://bluedolphinmusic.net/> <http://www.smilefest.com/>.

I'd like to welcome the DeadHeads Tri-State Music Calendar and DeadHeads Festival Calendar to the Lonely Goat Web Network. They took up residence a few weeks ago and I'm happy to have them here. Stop by their website and check out the events in the Tri-State area. <http://www.lonelygoat.com/deadheads/>

"Heaven knows where I'm goin', heaven knows just where I've been
I've been up and down this highway and I'm goin' right back again
When the drivin' gets too weary and the road, it get's too long
It's in he evening hours that it all comes down to a song"

UNC-TV is launching a new series named Carolina Calling which will feature talent homegrown in the Carolinas. UNC-TV will sponsor free talent shows during the next few months and there is no fee to submit your band. I've posted the text of the email on Lonely Goat Central at http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/ads/carolinacalling.htm.

In the Spotlight and Sandbox Productions had a great idea to put together a music event to raise funds for the American Red Cross. They've done a great job and the event is called COMMUNITY HARVEST: A RED CROSS BENEFIT.

WIDESPREAD PANIC NEW YEARS 2002!!
Widespread Panic has announced their New Years event. They will play Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA for 3 nights this year. December 29th, 30th, and 31st. Check out http://www.widespreadpanic.com for more details.

There was one correction to last week's show list that I would like to hightlight. Artistika Cafe in Greensboro does not have Moe Black this Friday. I found out this week that The Larry Keel Experience is actually playing. This is LKE's first appearance at this outstanding new venue and it should be pretty hot folks!

Another show note of a much sadder tone is the recent cancellation of Leftover Salmon's east coast tour from October 11 - October 27. Banjoman Mark Vann has been diagnosed with melanoma and begins chemotherapy in mid-October. Our thoughts and postive energy are focused on supporting his recovery. More information is posted at the LoS website. <http://www.leftoversalmon.com/ann/eastcoastcan.shtml>

"I've got the sun, I've got the earth, I feel constant rebirth."
- T.H.H.E. Mood Cultivation Project

There is just an amazing amount of music on the schedule so I won't take up much space. I do want to thank the bands and venues and agents for getting their shows into the jambase. It's great to see bands growing into statewide and regional tours. Thanks for the music.

Widespread Panic has a Fall Tour about to kick off soon in the West. They'll be in NC November 16 & 17 at Independence Arena in Charlotte, NC
Tickets went on sale 9/28 - $25.00 GA - 704 522 6500 - opener: Jerry Joseph & Jackmormons - showtime: 7:00PM

MD3 and David Via & Corn Tornado both have newly revised websites. Check em out from http://www.lonelygoat.com.
