February 2002 Goat Notes

02.28.02
I've been staying busy adding links, links, and more links to Lonely Goat Central. Massive updates have been made to the Bands and Venues pages. I still have a tray full of links to add too and I'm looking for more. If you know of a music related link in NC, please feel free to send me a note at tim@lonelygoat.com. Thanks to everyone for your support as I transition to covering all live music in NC.

I'm still in the process of moving the Goatee email list to Yahoo! Groups. I should finish up adding all of your emails during the next week and you will receive an invite from Yahoo!Groups when you are added. I hope that everyone will stay with me in the new email list and I'm looking forward to a much more efficient process for producing this email. Hopefully, that means more regular emails.

Lonely Goat has a long standing relationship with Smilefest Productions in Greensboro. Since 1999, I have been involved with their Smilefest festival in June and Lonely Goat will have a hand in the festivities this year too. SMILEFEST 2002 is scheduled for June 6-9 at Van Hoy Family Campground in Union Grove, NC. The SmileFolks have already confirmed Bela Fleck & the Flectones, Sam Bush Band, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Steve Kimock Band, Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer Duet, The Larry Keel Experience, The Jeff Coffin Mu'tet, Vassar Clements, and Curtis Burch. I mention this because Early bird tickets go on sale tomorrow (March 1) and it will be a short time before the prices go up. You know it's going to be good, so go ahead and get em! <http://www.smilefest.com>

And a little more shameless self promotion: I have revised the advertising options at Lonely Goat Central. I honestly think these are great values. Bands, Promoters, Venues, Merchants - please check out http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/advertise.htm and send me an email if you are interested. The only way the Lonely Goat site can continue is through the support of advertisers so if you think this website is useful, help me keep it going.

The last Goatee was sent out in early January and I aplogize for that. I have, however, made a few changes that I think will excite everyone.

First of all, I'm expanding my coverage to include all live music in North Carolina rather than just the jamband scene. It has become increasingly difficult to separate the jam from everything else so I just decided to cover everything. I have added a 'Music Style' field to the listings so that you can get an idea of what music you may encounter at a show. I'm very excited about this change. I will no longer include dates in the email since the list is quite long now. Dates will be available at Lonely Goat Central for you to peruse anytime: http://www.lonelygoat.com/lonelygoat/whatshappening.htm

I have some more updates in the works for the website too including a lot more links to resources about all kinds of music in NC. My focus is not to replace the websites that are covering scenes within the state, but to connect all of these scenes together at a state level. Keep up the good work folks and I'll try to get the word out about your efforts.

That's enough for now I guess. Stop by the website and check out the updates and I'll be back in touch soon. Thanks to everyone for your patience during the past couple of months. It has been pretty hectic, but I think we are finally getting it together.
