WHAT IS A LONELY GOAT?

LONELY GOAT MISSION STATEMENT

Lonely Goat exists for the purpose of increasing communication among people who share a common interest in music. Not just any music. The focus is on the abstract ... the improvisational ... the unexpected ... the jam or more comprehensively, the experience. There are no genre constraints. You can find it in Jazz ... Blues ... Reggae ... Rock ... Bluegrass or even Symphonic music.

The music is not everything, however. At the core is an attitude about how we live our lives and how we interact with the greater world. That attitude includes such rapidly evaporating ideals as freedom and expression. It also includes a strict adherence to the concept that human beings have minds which enable them to examine information objectively, without the clouds of everyday assumptions. A more accessible term is an "open mind." I prefer to refer to this attitude as "kind."

The mission of Lonely Goat is two-fold. First and primarily, Lonely Goat publishes with the goal of promoting all live music in North Carolina and more specifically developing the independent jam-music community. Secondly, Lonely Goat is published with the goal of bringing "kind" people together. That is the madness behind the name. Aren't we all lonely goats waiting for a glimpse of something exceptional to celebrate?

WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?

Lonely Goat is actually the result of a misunderstood lyric from the Jerry Garcia Band's song "Don't Let Go." That chorus will never be the same. I also chose the name because I think it reflects the mission to create a communications resource for kind people to stay in contact with each other and the events which sustain our peace of mind.
